An interesting pair of british great war medals earned by B GREY FMN MFA, A “Fireman” in the Mercantile fleet auxiliary. This is a civilian who was in effect a “stoker” (he who shovels coal or clinker to keep the boilers going on old steam powered ships) but at the time was called a fireman, very different to todays fireman profession. Note the fact that there is no military serial number assigned to this gentleman.
